A press release was sent out this morning to every major news outlet in Manitoba, officially launching Manitoba Wildlife Federations (MWF) “LAKEWATCH”. LAKEWATCH is a campaign to raise awareness among the outdoor community about the many issues affecting the sustainability of Manitoba’s fish and fishery resources.
In this release, the MWF stated that it is greatly concerned about the overall future and sustainability of the walleye fishery which is so important to many commercial and recreational anglers on Lake Winnipeg. Brent Kellett, MWF Board member and active Lake Winnipeg fisherman, expresses the concerns anglers have about Lake Winnipeg. “With the news commercial fishermen could not meet their annual quota last year and the Province hastily extending the season to help them harvest more walleye, anglers are now very concerned with the walleye populations in the lake.”
