The MWF would like congratulate the new government and the Honorable Minister Catherine Cox for committing to such an aggressive and positive set of priorities for fish and wildlife.
Many of the bullet points in the priority list within the mandate letter focus on the Manitoba Wildlife Federation’s biggest issues and concerns including the enormous need for co-management harvest agreements with First Nations, Metis and licensed hunters, the need to curtail spotlighting, the burgeoning need to improve big game survey effectiveness and the pursuit of the eco-certification of Lake Winnipeg to name but a few. These are all the biggest issues your Federation hoped to get on the Province’s agenda prior to the election and here they are. The MWF will continue to push the new government for effective action on this ambitious slate of priorities and we will work diligently to assist the Province achieve success whenever and wherever we can.
A huge thanks to Premier Pallister for answering our call for action, and especially to all of the citizens who helped shape the mandate of this new government to reflect the needs of fish, wildlife and the outdoor community.
