The Manitoba Wildlife Federation has been extremely grateful for the response we have received across the province at our Access-For-All Town Hall Meetings.
In our travels we have learned that the impact of Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCA) on public land access is still unclear. The lack of consultation with the Manitoba Wildlife Federation has been concerning, but even more concerning is the lack of discussion and consultation with rural municipal elected officials on all 30 x 30 initiatives (the protection of 30% of land and water by 2030), including IPCA’s. Our elected officials represent the interests of all citizens in their municipalities, while decisions are being made on land use without their involvement.
As a result, the Manitoba Wildlife Federation collaborated to develop a resolution to begin to address this lack of foresight on the part of the Federal and Provincial governments. The resolution has been developed to allow for discussion and presentation at the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) Fall Convention.
The Manitoba Wildlife Federation passionately believes that changes in land use should represent the interests of all Manitoban’s. It is time for the provincial and federal governments to order a pause to any further action in establishing IPCA’s and engage all stakeholders meaningfully to adopt conservation activities that benefit all Manitoban’s.
Below you will find a link to the resolution. We encourage you to share this resolution with your municipal councils and ask them to take this resolution forward to the AMM Fall Convention. If you require additional information, please contact the MWF office or dschindler@mwf.mb.ca.
