Firearms and Pre-Budget Consultations 2025

Shotguns

Canada’s proposed firearms buyback program continues to miss the mark—it fails to address firearms-based criminal activity and instead penalizes law-abiding firearms owners, including hunters and sport shooters.

Take action now: Have your say in the 2025 Pre-Budget Consultations and tell the government that licensed firearm owners are not the problem. Urge policymakers to focus on targeting illegal trafficking, strengthening border enforcement, and investing in gang-prevention, not penalizing responsible Canadians.

Why this matters:

The Pre-Budget Consultations are open until August 28, 2025-a short window to influence Budget 2025.

Question 3 in the consultation specifically asks respondents to rank “Completing the firearms buyback program” as a defence and security priority-don’t check that box unless you truly support it. Instead, use Section 4 to explain your position and alternatives.

Sampe prompt to include in your submission for those that do not support the buy back program:

“The firearms buyback program unfairly targets legal, licensed firearms owners-like hunters and sport shooters-without addressing the real source of gun violence in Canada: illegal trafficking, smuggling and organized crime. Please prioritize smarter, targeted solutions over policies that penalize law-abiding citizens”
