2023 and 2024 Big Game Survey Reports

Big Game Survey

Following an August 23rd, 2025, press conference, Bloodvein First Nation announced plans to block licensed non-Indigenous hunters, anglers, and trappers from accessing unoccupied Crown lands near their territory. In response, the Manitoba Wildlife Federation (MWF) wrote our Premier and Ministers calling on the province to intervene, provide leadership, and share the 2023 and 2024 big game survey results.

Minister Ian Bushie with the Department of Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures has responded quickly and scheduled a meeting with the MWF for Sept 4th to discuss the situation. The government has also finally released the 2023 and 2024 big game survey results which includes moose population estimates for Bloodvein (GHA 17A in the 2024 report). Long-term trends for 17A report that moose populations have remained stable since 2000.
