The 5th Annual Ice Fishing Festival was once again a roaring success! Hosted by the Manitoba Wildlife Federation in partnership with FortWhyte Alive, this year’s event took place this past Saturday and drew an impressive crowd despite the cool, rainy weather.
Thanks to generous support from Bass Pro Shops and the Government of Manitoba, the event was free to attend, with all equipment provided, making it accessible to anglers of all experience levels. Each year, the festival attracts between 700 and 1,200 participants, and this year was no exception. It was especially encouraging to see such a diverse crowd, including many families, reinforcing that fishing truly is for everyone.
Throughout the day, plenty of fish were caught, including many first-time catches, which is always a highlight of the event.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the more than 70 volunteers who made the day possible, as well as to the Manitoba Fly Fishers Association, Manitoba Conservation Officers Association, KidFish, and the Urban Angling Partnership for their continued support and participation.
