Following our recent correspondence with the Province regarding the Seal River Watershed proposal, the Manitoba Wildlife Federation met with Minister Moyes to discuss our members’ concerns and seek greater clarity on several key issues.
During the meeting, MWF reiterated our concerns with the proposed National Park establishment, particularly the exclusion of hunting opportunities and the impacts on active outfitters operating within the proposed area.
We also reinforced our position that any management board established for the project should serve in an advisory capacity only. MWF believes the Province of Manitoba must retain final decision-making authority over provincial Crown lands, including matters related to public access, wildlife management, hunting regulations, and resource management. We further emphasized that MWF and other relevant stakeholder groups should have representation on the advisory board to ensure the interests of Manitoba’s hunting, angling, trapping, and outdoor communities are reflected in future discussions.
MWF appreciated the opportunity to meet directly with Minister Moyes and will continue advocating for a transparent process that protects public access, respects Manitoba’s outdoor heritage, and ensures decisions affecting provincial lands remain accountable to all Manitobans.
