WMA Update Featuring Tim Poole, Species at Risk Biologist

Wildlife monitoring is a crucial component for evaluating the success of our WMA enhancement project. As part of this process, grassland songbirds and sharp-tailed grouse surveys have been taking place at our two WMA locations in order to track the impacts of the prescribed management techniques throughout the course of the project. By reintroducing disturbance onto the landscapes, we hope to see an overall increase in habitat quality, biodiversity and wildlife species.

A huge thank you to Tim Poole, species at risk Biologist for the province of Manitoba for taking the time to discuss these components of the project and for helping further our understanding of why it is so important to manage these areas, not only for harvestable species, but for species at risk as well.
